Since the hotfix of U10 my Launcher is stuck at 'Examine Game Data.. Waiting'.
I run Windows 7 64bit on a high end machine.
This is my (captains) log to figure out the problem. Hopefully its helpfull for other people
Step 1
I ran the game on Steam, reinstalled it there with no luck.
Then I downloaded the installer from lotro.com, installed it fresh on another location (with all other data from LOTRO removed), again no luck.
Step 2 (and also during Step 1)
I rebooted my PC multiple times, I pulled the plug of my routers and I forwarded several ports (mentioned here: http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.p...ated-8-12-2010)
No luck.
Step 3
The HDD I installed it on has restore options enabled, but all the .dat files have no previous versions.
Step 4
When cutting all the .dat files and pasting it into a seperate folder outside the LOTRO folder, the Launcher does pass the 'examine game data ..waiting stage'. It starts to update, but only the files
client_cell_2.dat (ended up 196 mb, previous file 187 mb)
client_local_english.dat (ended up 651 mb, previous file 649 mb)
client_map_2.dat (ended up 21 mb, previous 22 mb)
The other .dat files are not downloaded.
So I put back all the .dat files again, except the ones that have been downloaded. This puts the launcher back into the frozen state of 'examining game data... waiting'.
Step 5
Keeping the downloaded files noted above, and removing and re-adding .dat files one at a time
With only the above files, the launcher log still says some strange stuff:
-Adding unins000.dat to the LOTRO folder: no update/no problem
-Adding client_surface.dat to the LOTRO folder: an update occurs/no problem afterwards
-Adding client_sound.dat to the LOTRO folder: an update occurs/no problem afterwards
-Adding client_mesh.dat to the LOTRO folder: an update occurs/no problem afterwards
-Adding client_map_1.dat to the LOTRO folder: an update occurs/no problem afterwards
-Adding client_highres_aux_1.datx to the LOTRO folder: an update occurs/no problem afterwards. According to the launcher, this causes an update to client_highres.dat, but actually the client_highres_aux_1.dat file size has increased, indicating that the latter was updated.
-Adding client_general.dat to the LOTRO folder: an update occurs/no problem afterwards
-Adding client_gamelogic.dat to the LOTRO folder: the launcher holds as 'Examine Game Data... Waiting', removing it again also removes the error.
-Adding client_cell_1.dat to the LOTRO folder: an update occurs/no problem afterwards
-Adding client_anim.dat to the LOTRO folder: an update occurs/no problem afterwards
-Adding client_gamelogic.dat again to the LOTRO folder: the launcher holds as 'Examine Game Data... Waiting', removing it again also removes the error.
This concludes that the client_gamelogic.dat file is the corrupt one. Using google I noticed this file has been corrupt often, both for LOTR and DDO!
What I dont understand is why the launcher downloads the 3 .dat files noted in Step 4, but not the other files if they are missing.
Step 6
Redownloaded the standard version of the LOTRO client, used the repair option, but copied back in the updated files from Step 5. This should give a fresh client_gamelogic.dat.
Again Examine Game Data... Waiting.
Is a corrupt file included in the installer?
My next options will be:
- Have kind people who are willing to share their client_gamelogic.dat through dropbox/filesharing site.
- Wait to get my hands on a different computer and try to download and install LOTRO on that machine, copying the gamelogic.dat to my own pc.
Well I let you know if this fixes the problem. Hopefully one of you can share your uncorrupted client_gamelogic.dat :)
