Game experiencing weird difficulties

When I load the client from Steam, and i log into my character, the game screen rapidly switches between being black and the proper game screen, completely preventing playing the game at all, and when i try to play from the pure lotro downloadable client, the screen of my desktop does the same thing.
Advice would be extremely appreciated, if it helps, I am using an Alienware M17X laptop.
