Awesomiumprocess annoyance

I realise awesomiumprocess is to do with various bits of the game, including the store and wotnot, but it's making my game do this annoying lag spike every 30 seconds or so.

I know this because I hardly have anything running in the background when I play, and when I 'end process tree' it stops, until I do something that starts it up again. It's driving me nuts.

Incidentally, it always fires up two versions of itself - is it supposed to do that?

Any advice on how to stop the lag spike - I think it's unlikely I'm able to switch the damn thing off, yes? My machine isn't the newest, but I'm not getting a new one any time soon, and the rest of the game works beautifully.
