Game crashes to blackscreen on startup.

First of all, to add on to the title. It sometimes shows the Rohan splash screen that shows for a few seconds before the intro cinematics.

The computer is back from around 2006 and the specs are as follows.

4GB of ddr2 ram with only 3 usable
Pentium D 805 2.66Ghz dual core processor
XFX Geforce 8600 GT with 1GB of ddr2 ram
32-bit Windows XP media center edition with service pack 3
all latest updates from windows update

I could run the game on it without error about 2 years ago before I got my new rig but now, it wont work.
at first I removed the old install because I didnt want to update the files and I copied the game to my pc from a flash drive that I have the game on and up to date.

I ran it and it just died right after I selected my server.

I then tried some OpenAL32.dll things I read on the forums to no avail. I tried changing the firewall setting and still nothing.

So I decided to do a clean install of the game after removing everything (I think) using Steam and it updated and it did the same thing as before.

I don't know why its not working now when I know the game still works on my netbook (Also running XP but with 2GB of ram and onboard graphics which are horrid).
If anyone knows how to fix this I would greatly appreciate the help :)
