Installation stuck on .dat file

So I recently bought the humble bundle that featured the steely dawn pack which I was very excited for since I have not touched my level 29 character for awhile now since I did not have any quest packs in order for him to progress. I figured I would need to have the game on Steam in order for it to work, which now I don't think is true, but anyway. I tried installing it through steam despite already having the game installed, after it stopping on the .dat files I figure out it probably isn't smart to have two installs of the game, so I try my best to do a "clean" uninstall and delete every trace of the game and then I gave it another go through steam. Yet, it still gets stuck on the same spot despite there not being any trace of the game on my computer from before. Now I have tried installing and uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times, but it gets stuck on the same file nearly every time...client_sound.dat-21987....if that helps any of you.

This is a very frustrating issue as I was very excited to get back into the groove of things since I was really bummed out once I figured out I couldn't quest anymore unless I bought a quest pack, but the steely dawn starter pack has rekindled the old flame. Been a rollercoaster of emotion over my time with this game and right now I am at a low point, stumped. Can't find any help on this issue anywhere and I am up pretty late and looking forward to bed so forgive any issues in my writing and I look forward to hearing back from someone! anyone! help!
